A 3D model of the 'A' Laptop Stand turning slowly: the letter A as a thick blue plate, thicker at the back than the front, with a raised lip along the bottom edge.
A 3D model of the wall hook in bone white plastic: a rounded rectangular pad with a flat tongue projecting from the middle of it.

'A' Laptop Stand V1

A 3D printed laptop stand shaped like the letter A, with a hook so it hangs on the wall

Still warm

I put my laptop on a tech organiser for about a year. It worked, in the sense that the laptop was higher. This is the same idea with the angle actually worked out, cut into the letter A, and it hangs on the wall when the laptop is shut.

What it is

One flat plate, 35 mm thick at the back and 7 mm at the front, which puts the laptop on a 10.6° slope. A raised lip runs along the front edge and stands 4.7 mm proud of that slope — it is the only thing stopping the laptop walking down the ramp over an afternoon. The counters of the A are the airflow, and they are also most of the reason this isn't half a kilo of plastic.

There is a slot cut into the back of it, 40 × 10 mm and 20 mm deep. That is for the hook, which is the second file. Stick the hook to the wall, drop the stand onto it, and it reads as a letter on a wall rather than as a laptop stand that has been put away.

It only says A. I drew the rest of the alphabet after this one and didn't like any of them enough to hang up, so for now this is the letter that exists.

Print it before you lean on it. It is a plastic wedge holding a laptop up, exactly as trustworthy as your first layer. It goes down flat on its back with about 150 cm² on the bed and needs no supports, which is the one genuinely easy thing about it.

What else is in the download

Wall Hook

A 70 × 40 mm pad with a 38 mm tongue that stands 15 mm off the wall and drops into the slot in the back of the stand. There are no screw holes in it. The back is flat and sized for one strip of mounting tape, because I was not going to drill a hole in my wall for a laptop stand and I assumed you weren't either. Print it if you want the wall thing; the stand works on a desk without it.

Printing it

What we printed ours with. A starting point, not laws.

Layer height
0.12 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle. The top face is a 10.6° slope, so at 0.2 mm the stair-step is 1.07 mm and you can feel it with a thumb. At 0.12 it's 0.64 mm.
Walls
3 perimeters
Infill
20%, gyroid
Supports
None. It prints flat on its back and every overhang on it is a fillet.
Material
PLA. The load is straight down through the layers rather than across them, so this is one of the rare brackets where the filament you grabbed is probably fine.
Time
Long. It's 133 g at 0.12 mm layers, so plan for most of a day rather than an evening. The hook is about 5 g and you can put it on the same plate.
